During the frosty month that is January in Calgary, our lucky buyers were able to sneak away to Las Vegas for the annual furniture and home decor market. With over five million square feet brimming with the best of what home design has to offer, the Vegas market is a great place to scope out what the year in home decor will look like. Here’s what our buyers had to write home about…
Warm Metals
This year we’re seeing trends shift away from the typical cool metal accents. In 2015, we won’t be seeing the market be dominated as heavily by the chromes, steels or brushed nickels that we have in years past. Instead, we’re seeing them be replaced by their softer counterparts- rose gold accent chairs, gold leaf coffee tables, and pinky copper hardware. We were particularly struck by this unique statement coffee table- this would definitely spark many a conversation in your living room!
Wood Tones
While many homes are still donning white and grey washed woods, our buyers noticed an increase in natural wood tones. Again, this is staying on trends with the switch from cool to warm tones. Raw teak and walnut woods are stealing the scene this year, from small scale accents to real statement pieces like stools and console tables. Many manufacturers have all but done away with heavy finishings and are opting to let the beautiful wood grain speak for itself.
Black & White
A graphic and high contrast look, pairing black and white is always a bold design statement. Even though this look is daring, the use of neutrals keeps it classic and timeless. At this years’ show, the buyers took note of the use of these contrasting shades on walls, art and furniture. One eye-catching space used greenery and a bit of warmer wall art to make an otherwise cool, black and white corner more approachable.
Navy Blue
This year, home decor seems to be making the move from softer, muted shades to more luxurious, intensely saturated statement colours. Specifically on trend for 2015 is navy and other rich shades of blue. If we had to sum up this trend in a word it would be drama. What better way to add a little flair to your space than with a pair of custom, Canadian-made, jewel toned accent chairs?
