If you’ve ever considered ordering quality-made furniture, you’ve probably wondered what the whole process looks like. We know that it can be a daunting task and we want to take the guess work out of it for you. Today, we’re going to break our process down for you, from the initial furniture design to the time that the piece arrives at your doorstep!

Coming into Birchwood Furniture Galleries

When you step foot in our store, if you can give us a few moments of your time, we like to teach you about how to shop for furniture, what important questions to ask and what to look for when shopping for quality furniture.

Next, we want to know about your lifestyle and needs for the space that you are furnishing. Do you have children or pets? Do you entertain often? How do you want your space to feel? What functions do you need to meet? What style are you after?This is all crucial information when selecting new home furnishings. This helps us guide you to toward appropriately sized pieces, suitable material selections, and styles. For more information on how we can help you with your furniture selection, read here

Ready to Order

Once we’ve found the right pieces for your home and made the final material and finishings selections, we write up your order. When the order is placed, we ask for a deposit on your purchase. 

Why, you ask? Because this way we’re in the same boat; we are looking forward to the balance being paid and you are looking forward to the arrival of your beautiful new furniture. We’re in this together! We recommend that you do not pay in full upon ordering custom furniture, if you are dealing with stores that request it.

Production Phase

What’s next? Your new purchases go into production! Work orders for your pieces are sent out, and the manufacturing of your goods begin. Whether it’s a piece being produced beyond the Canadian border or from just down the road, locally sourced and handmade, the process is the same.

Ready for your Home

Depending on the pieces ordered, the production and shipping time will vary. Once your furnishings have arrived in our warehouse here in Calgary, we get the ball rolling to get them to your home! We unwrap, inspect, and give our stamp of approval to every article that comes out of our doors. When we’re certain that the pieces meet our high standards, our staff will notify you that your pieces are now available.

It’s at this time that we will have you clear up the remaining balance from your invoice. Once the balance has been collected, our contracted delivery company will contact you directly to coordinate the best time for you to receive your furniture.

Delivery Options

What’s the most convenient way for you to receive your order? You have many options to ensure that you get your pieces your way. 

During the week, we can arrange for you to pick up your order from our warehouse Monday to Friday 9a .m to 3:30 p.m. Can’t make it during the week? We can arrange to have your order transferred to our Calgary store for you to pick up on the weekends instead! Our weekend store hours are Saturday 10 a.m to 6 p.m, Sunday 12 to 5 p.m.

Or, if delivery better suits your needs, our delivery company can bring the furnishings right into your space and assemble if required, hauling all packing materials away with them from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday to Friday. In special circumstances we can make other arrangements.
